Aresis d. o. o. specialises in manufacturing top-end optical tweezer systems, offering researchers powerful and practical tools for various academic and industrial applications. The company was founded in 2004 in Ljubljana, Slovenia, with the vision of delivering high-performance, turn-key systems that would allow users to maximise their performance by focusing on their research instead on the technique.
The Aresis research team includes scientists with over 20 years of experience in experimental physics and biophysics. Initially building custom optical tweezers for their work at the University of Ljubljana, the team’s expertise in optics, electronics, optomechanics, and software design led to the rapid development and commercial release of their first product, the Tweez 200si. Launched in 2008, the Tweez 200si was, at the time, the most accurate commercially available optical tweezer system.
In close collaboration with research institutions and responding to the commercial demand, the Aresis research team continuously develops and improves its optical tweezers. Their goal is to meet or exceed the performance of the most advanced laboratory systems, while providing the advantages of professionally engineered instruments. The objective of the company is to deliver state-of-the-art instruments that are cost-effective, reliable, and nearly maintenance-free, specifically designed to support cutting-edge innovative scientific research.
Aresis founders

dr. Igor Poberaj
Igor is currently responsible for the product and market development of optical instruments and electro-optical components. He holds a PhD in Physics from the University of Ljubljana, Slovenia, and completed postdoctoral research at ETH Zürich, Switzerland. He pursued an academic career as a professor of Optics, specialising in experimental soft matter physics. During his tenure, he developed a working prototype of optical tweezers, which paved the road for successful research and lead to high-impact publications. Igor is also a co-founder of miDALIX, a company manufacturing maskless laser lithography instrumentation.

dr. Dušan Babić
Dušan is responsible for system design, software development, and identifying future challenges. He holds a PhD in Physics from the University of Ljubljana, Slovenia, and gained work experience in experimental soft matter physics laboratories at the Universities of Konstanz (Germany), Stuttgart (Germany), and Ljubljana (Slovenia). During his academic career, Dušan was heavily involved in developing equipment for micro-particle manipulation and micro-structuring, which contributed significantly to the rapid success of both Aresis and miDALIX.
